Richards and Breddy shine with bat as Frensham secure comfortable victory over Fernhurst

Frensham 1st XI secured a comfortable nine wicket victory over Fernhurst 1st XI on Saturday thanks to some free-flowing stroke-play from Frensham’s opening batsmen, Jack Richards and George Breddy.

The home side won the boss and elected to bowl first on a green-tinged pitch. Frensham’s bowling attack showed good discipline with ball-in-hand, restricting the away side’s scoring rate early on. With pressure building, Fernhurst lost wickets steadily throughout their innings, although some rear-guard action did help them to a respectable score of 159-9 (declared) from 45 overs at tea.

In reply, Frensham’s opening pair of George Breddy and Jack Richards seized control of the game and never looked troubled in their pursuit of the winning total. The pair were able to score freely, with Breddy anchoring the innings while Richards played a more aggressive role. By the time the pair’s opening stand of 150 came to an end, with Richards caught on the boundary just four runs shy of a well-deserved hundred, the game was all but won. George Breddy ended on 55 not out as Frensham cruised home by nine wickets.
