Scribe loves days like this: clear blue skies, a fresh wicket, and a young, hungry team.

The skipper won the toss and elected to field first, looking to exploit the conditions and put the visitors under pressure.

Baldock's first delivery set the tone for much of the match, swinging prodigiously down the leg-side. Scribe could only get half a glove on the ball, and Fernhurst got underway with a bye.

The pitch was fair, offering consistent bounce and good carry for the batsmen while providing plenty of swing (and seam for skillful bowlers) to extract from the pitch.

Much like visiting Test teams playing on a green mamba at Headingley for the first time, Fernhurst's openers were unsure how to combat the swinging deliveries. Whittington chose aggression and, after a few agricultural blows, was cleaned up by the relentless Charlie Ridley for 14. Ridley is a special bowler, tall, effortless, relentless, and with the ability to swing the ball back into the right-hander and take the occasional one away. Smiler soon had the cordon packed, and there was a sense that plenty of opportunities would present themselves to the expectant fielders.

Crowder did not disappoint; a wild drive took a thick outside edge and was well held at slip by Sam Farncombe.

There followed a procession of indifferent batting, as a series of injudicious shots were no match for the standard of bowling. Baldock, consistently targeting off stump, bowled Dyer and had Meier well caught by Farncombe, again at first slip.

Farncombe and Goulder mopped up the tail, and Fernhurst were all out for 56.

Chasing a modest target, Frensham had a shaky start as Harry Falkiner departed without scoring. However, Charlie Robertson showed composure and determination, anchoring the innings. He found an able partner in Charlie Pamment, and together they steadied the ship. Pamment contributed a crucial 28 runs, while Robertson anchored the innings until the end.

Although Fernhurst bowlers, led by Bruce Baxendale, fought valiantly and picked up wickets, the target was too small to cause any real trouble for Frensham. Harvey Herrington and Scribe fell cheaply, but Ned Brown joined Robertson to guide their team to victory. Frensham reached the target of 57 runs with six wickets to spare.

Frensham's disciplined bowling and solid batting display ensured a convincing win. While the Fernhurst batting lineup was not the strongest, and we have failed in the past to be ruthless, there were no mistakes this time.
